Dr. Boonreum Singhanetr, YMCA Committee Chairman, and Mr. Vorakit Kantakalung, Coordinating Secretary founded the YMCA of Chiang Mai on January 10, 1970. A commercial building was rented at the Night Bazaar to be the office. The office was later moved to Charoenprates Road, and in 1977 it moved to its present location. Dr. Boonreum and Mrs. Kuenkam Signhanetr donated the land for the current location. The opening ceremony for the building took place on January 23, 1977, at which representatives of the king were present. The activities of the association have gradually increased, making the original office insufficient to serve all members.
Therefore the following YMCA branches have been established:
       1. YMCA Saohin, established in 1984
103 Koklang Road, Nonghoi Sub-district Muang District,
Chiang Mai Province 5000
       2. YMCA Chiang Rai, established in 1984
70 Phaholyothin Road, Rimkok Sub-district Muang District, Chiang Rai Province 57100
Land donated by Ms. Orn-Anong Paowattana
       3. YMCA Lamphun, established in 1985 at No.6 Sanpayang Road, Muang District, Lamphun Province 51000
       4. YMCA Sankamphaeng, established in 1988
111 Theppabutr Road, Sankamphaeng District, Chiang Mai Province 50130
Land donated by Ms. Chansom Chinnawat
Activities of the five related centers - Santhitham, Saohin, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, and Sankamphaeng - conform to the policies of the international YMCA organization.
